Summary by Anne Millbrooke
1903 This summer construction began
on the Council City and Solomon River
Railroad, and two 23-ton locomotives began operating
on the rails.
The locomotives were New York brand (serial numbers
137 and 149), Forney type,
0-4-4T units built in 1886 for the New York Elevated
Railway for pulling
passenger cars. The CC&SRR designated them
locomotives No. 1 and No. 2.
1904 The railroad added a third locomotive,
designated No. 3. It was a
Baldwin brand (serial number 5622), Forney type, 0-4-4T
unit built for the
New York Elevated Railway in 1881.
1906 The Council City and Solomon
River Railroad sold some equipment and
construction materials to the Seward Peninsula Railroad,
but kept three
locomotives, two passenger cars, and 17 freight cars
as rolling stock, and
extended the roadbed to Penelope Creek.
1907 In October the railroad formally
went into receivership.
